I worked with 10 schools around Waltham Forest, involving groups of around 15 participants in making life-sized clay monsters. Through a number of workshops they explored their fears and ideas of what is monstrous, then they designed and built armatures and the clay sculptures on top.
I fired the finished pieces, exhibited them at The View visitors centre in Epping Forest, then returned them to their schools.
One monster didn’t survive the post-making process, but here is a stop-motion film of its creation.
There’s also a short film about the whole project.
This project was funded by the Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019
